Silas Jayne was a suburban based Chicago horse breeder. After his death he was implicated in a number of murder investigations including that of his own half brother, a rival horse breeder. As a young boy he was bitten by a goose on the farm he lived on. He broke the necks of the whole flock of geese barehanded as retribution. This illustration accompanied a feature article in The Sunday Chicago Tribune Magazine.
